The New Zealand Sport and Physical Activity Survey was an interviewer administered face-to-face self-report survey.
For adults, the New Zealand Sport and Physical Activity Survey was an interviewer-administered, face-to-face self-report survey. Data collected on young people (aged five to 17 years old) was collected via proxy reporting.
The following information was collected:
- adult participation levels in a variety of sport and recreation activities;
- time adults spent per day participating in sport and active leisure;
- proportion of adults who participated in organised competition or events;
- proportion of adults and young people who received instruction from a coach, instructor, teacher or trainer to improve performance;
- proportion of adults who were members of clubs or centres to partake in sport and recreation activity;
- level of sport and recreation volunteering among adults;
- proportion of young people who participated in sport or physical activities organised by their school and participated in during school hours;
- proportion of young people who participated in sport or physical activities organised by their school and participated in outside of school hours;
- proportion of young people who participated in sport or physical activities organised by a club or association; and
- proportion of young people who participated in sport or physical activities not organised by a club/association or school.
