The Research Team at SPARC works with a wide range of organisations and agencies to produce research and policy.
This work supports the development of the sport and recreation sector. Specifically, it aims to help achieve SPARC's vision of being the most active nation, winning consistently in events that matter to New Zealanders, and having the most effective sport and recreation systems.
This website contains the published results of the 2007/08 Active NZ Survey and the previous surveys undertaken in 1997/98, 1998/99 and 2000/01. The 2007/08 survey is the key measure of participation in sport, recreation and physical activity for New Zealand adults aged 16 years and over. The survey collects data from each participant on their participation in sport, recreation and physical activity over the previous 12 months, four weeks and last seven days.
